Anuradhapura was the first capital of Sri Lanka, established in the 4th century BC.

It was a center of Theravada Buddhism and home to some of the world's most advanced irrigation systems.

The city is famous for the sacred Bodhi Tree (Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi), which is believed to be the oldest recorded tree in the world.

It was abandoned after repeated invasions but remains one of Sri Lanka's most revered historical sites.
