Climate

Yala has a dry climate with temperatures ranging from 26°C to 34°C. The best time to visit is from February to July when animals gather around waterholes.

Transport

Reach Yala by private vehicle, taxi, or bus from Colombo or other major cities. Safaris are conducted in 4x4 jeeps with experienced guides.

History â–¼

Yala has a rich history dating back to ancient times, once serving as a settlement for Buddhist monks with remains of temples and stupas still visible.

The park was officially designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and later upgraded to a national park in 1938.

Today, Yala is famous for its thriving population of leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and an incredible variety of bird species.
